Adrian's Tomcat 100"

Volkswagen Beetle based Buggies

Volkswagen Beetles are only two wheel drive, are air cooled and use torsion bar suspension, completely unlike a Range Rover. They can however be converted into beach buggies and sand rails using a kit, commercial parts or just the skill of the builder and what he can find in their workshop.

Volkswagen Beetle Beach Buggies

Volkswagen Beetles can be converted so they are more suitable for use off-road, but still look like Volkswagen Beetles. The most common conversion is called a Baja Bug after the sandy area they originally raced. Click on the picture for more details.

Volkswagen Beetle based Sandrail

A sandrail is a different kind of off-road racer designed for racing on sand (or dry dusty surfaces). Built for speed, but not for manoeuvrability in mud. However a sandrail has some concepts in common with the Tomcat, eg taking the running gear from a production vehicle and putting it into a light, tubular space frame chassis and roll cage. Volkswagen Beetle based Off Road Buggy

This buggy is very similar to a sandrail in that it uses parts from a Volkswagen Beetle, but it looks like it has been designed for use off-road in this country, in the mud. Click on the picture for more details.
